The Europe cardiovascular disease therapeutic market size stood at around 30.46 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach USD xx billion by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of xx% during the forecast period.

Cardiovascular disease is a collective term, which refers to a range of diseases affecting the heart and the vessels. WHO reports that cardiovascular diseases are most common cause of death globally, leading to approximately 17.9 million deaths each year. Majority of the cases are of coronary artery disease.

In Netherlands, coronary artery disease and stroke cause the greatest disease burden, contributing to 5.3% and 4.8% of total disease burden respectively. Expenditure on care for coronary heart disease is in the top ten most expensive diseases.

In 2017, these expenditures amounted to 2.3 billion euros. In total, health care expenditure for coronary heart disease accounted for 22% of expenditure on cardiovascular disease and 2.6% of total expenditure on health care in the Netherlands. Half of the health care expenditure for coronary heart disease goes to hospital care and specialist medical care (1.3 billion euros). A quarter of the expenditure is spent on care for the elderly (559 million euros).



 

 

Market Drivers

The market will be driven by the high burden of the disease. Though the number of cases have remained virtually constant between 2011 and 2019, it is still the most common cause for death and disability. Netherlands reported 1.7 million cases of cardiovascular disease in 2019. The maximum number of cases were of coronary artery disease (773,000), followed by stroke (500,600). Statistics report that number of new diagnosis of coronary artery diseases is more in men. On the other hand, new diagnosis of heart failure and stroke were higher in women. The heavy burden is due to increasing old age population, increased incidence of other lifestyle diseases like obesity and diabetes

High per capita expenditure on healthcare and increased awareness towards treatment modalities will also drive the market.
