Pouchitis is an inflammatory condition of the ileal pouch. Pouchitis mainly is observed in the patient who has undergone ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA), a surgical procedure used for removing the rectum & the large intestine. The symptoms of pouchitis are tenesmus, straining during defecation, blood in stool, seepage of waste matter while asleep, incontinence, tail bone pain, abdominal cramp, and increased frequency in night-time bowel movements.
