Market Definition

A glove is a hand-covering item of clothing. The thumb and each finger typically have their openings or sheaths on gloves. Cloth, knitted or felted wool, leather, rubber, latex, neoprene, silk, and metal are among the materials used to make gloves. Kevlar gloves shield the wearer from cuts and thus, are cut-resistant. These give comfort and protection for hands from extremes of temperature, sickness, and harm from chemicals, abrasion, and friction. They can also act as a guard against objects that bare hands should not touch. Healthcare workers frequently wear latex, nitrile rubber, or vinyl disposable gloves as a precaution against contamination and for hygiene reasons to avoid bio-decontamination.
Glove type and material are based on the type of exposure and nature of the hazard. For general laboratory use, disposable nitrile gloves are an excellent latex substitute. In addition to reducing the risk of sensitization, nitrile gloves offer superior chemical resistance over latex to many chemical substances. Some chemicals can easily penetrate gloves that work very well for other chemicals. Disposable and surgical-type gloves are appropriate for incidental contact. Nitrile gloves are preferred over latex because of their chemical resistance, their tendency to visibly rip when punctured and to prevent possible latex allergies.
