Report Overview

Germanys Cardiovascular therapeutics market size stood at around USD XX.X billion in 2019 and is projected to reach USD xx billion by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 14.5% during the forecast period.

Integrating healthcare with advanced technologies like IoT, and data analytics has increased the growth opportunities of the telemedicine market in Germany. Also, the emergence of home care devices and social platforms has improved communication between consumers and professionals for transferring information and physiological data which, home care devices can track the health status of patients and will regularly update the data to professionals leading to rising demand for these devices. Besides, improved use of technology in healthcare conveyance and a lack of physicians in rural areas is foreseen to offer a new prospect for most of the telemedicine market

Though the signs of progress in the Telemedicine market are visible, with the E-health initiative of the German government or recent legislative initiatives, long processes are observed that do not facilitate the use of telemedicine.

Although some federal states, e.g., North Rhine Westphalia, Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Saxony, show exemplary activities, there are still many white areas on the telemedicine map of Germany.

The road to standard care will be long but is not unattainable. The reasons for supporting telemedicine are still strong. The future development of telemedicine applications will contribute to sustainable and high-quality patient care in Germany.

Market Driving and Restraining Factors

Market Drivers

    • The emergence of favorable policies and advancements in the telemedicine market.

According to the German National Association of Statutory Health Insurance (Kassenrztliche Bundesvereinigung), video consultation hours can be used by almost all groups of doctors. The only exceptions are laboratory physicians, nuclear medicine specialists, pathologists, and radiologists. For psychotherapists, telemedicine should in principle only be used if there was already a personal first contact for entrance diagnostics, indication position, and explanation. Moreover, if from a therapeutic view no direct personal contact is necessary.

    • High literacy rate

    • Rise in population of elderly patients

Other driving factors include better socio-economic conditions, increase in the rate of chronic diseases, increase in adoption of IT solutions in healthcare, rise in demand for basic care services

Restraining Factors

Telemedicine as a subject has reached politics, doctors, and patients, but it has still not been able to make the leap from research, development, and testing into real practice. This is generally because of the great barriers to implementation, mainly the lack of telematics infrastructure and of payment regulations in Germany. Telemedicine projects are mainly isolated applications, and it has not been possible to integrate them into nationwide regular health services. Other challenges along the path to standard care include that research-based small-medium enterprise (SME) companies usually face high barriers hindering access to this market because it is impossible for them to finance all the required evidence-based studies to verify the medical benefits and the economic efficiency.
